Hard Hat History (Autos)

Hard Hat History, the title of this issue, intends to illustrate

“where the present blends into the past”.

A brief history of the gas engine is followed by a

center layout picturing popular cars from 1923 to 1936 with

proud Rutland owners standing before them.

Two paintings illustrate the past; one of Julia Caroline Ripley

Dorr, a well know Rutland poet with her granddaughter, and

a painting of Otter Creek by former Rutland mayor Jack Carder.

Following this theme there are two book reviews; Vermont Album by R.N.Hill (1974) a collection of 216 photographs of 19th century Vermont, and Fences,Gates and Bridges edited by G.A.Martin a reprint of an 1887 edition.
